About Mike
I am 60 years old, having been born and lived in Wiltshire for most of my life. I am married with four grown up children and six grandchildren.
I grew up in Calne and joined the army at the age of sixteen. Leaving the regular army a couple of years later, I returned to live with my parents who had moved to Melksham where I met my wife, raised our own family, and remained for the next 40 years.
Most of my working life I have been involved in transport and logistics where for example I was national transport co-ordinator/manager for a bonded warehouse.
My first encounter with local councils was when I represented my employer on the Wiltshire County Council Freight quality partnership. This was a forum that brought all stakeholders together to consider the movement of freight on Wiltshire’s roads. This was a real lesson in the need to work together with others and to find compromise.
I then stood for Melksham Without Parish Council where I served three terms, then Melksham Town Council for one, and then Wiltshire Unitary authority where I was successfully elected in 2021.
